What is the best way to learn French?

A lot of people ask us if learning under hypnosis is the quickest way to learn French. We have many years of experience in teaching and learning French, and we would like to help you to find the quickest and easiest ways to learn French for you.

Firstly we can tell you that unfortunately, it isn’t possible to learn French in your sleep. Numerous studies have been held in learning different subjects while you are asleep and the general conclusion is that it isn’t a solution. However, it has been proved that it is easier to learn anything if you get enough sleep and avoiding stress is part of that. Hypnosis can help you to relax, in particular during your French classes, and relaxing helps you to sleep better and therefore to learn better.

Neither is it really possible to learn French in one day. You can learn a list of basic French vocabulary in one day for example, and we can send you lists of vocabulary, help you to pronounce the words and to learn them, but if you want to improve your level of French generally you will need several hours of French classes.

Go to our home page for information about our French classes.

It is fairly easy to find apps where you can learn French online. With Duolingo for example you can learn French for free. These free French classes online can be very helpful, but in our experience, it is difficult to keep your motivation going in the long run with apps. It is a bit like the having a gym subscription; some people are motivated enough to go regularly for years, but you are much more likely to keep going if you have a coach. In the same way, if you have an individual teacher, and face to face classes, even with distance learning, you are much more likely to learn French quickly.

One very good way of learning French for beginners or for more advanced students is to learn by listening. During our online French classes, since they are face to face, we will speak in French while you are under hypnosis to help you to relax while you learn French by listening. You can supplement these face to face classes by listening to French words or French conversation with free online apps.

Of course, if you want to speak in French or have a conversation, you will need someone to speak to, which is often the missing part from pre-recorded French courses. With our lessons, you have a friendly and encouraging French teacher to talk to, who will be able to gently correct any mistakes and help to reproduce real life situations. In our opinion, this is one of the best ways to learn French conversation.

Feedback from our clients

  • Mark

Worth every penny. Rachel’s enthusiasm is catching.

  • Sarah

We have a holiday home in France, but my French was really bad and I was embarrassed to speak. After 20 classes I was confident enough to buy things in the local shop and speak to the neighbours. 5 stars!

  • Emily

I’d tried other hypnosis classes, but they were pre-recorded and I lost motivation. With these classes there’s a real person calling you on Skype, talking to you about your issues with French and concentrating on the areas that you need to improve. It’s like having a personal trainer for French.

  • Becky

Wow! Amazing experience with the hypnosis. All the negative stuff I had at school came out, and I finally started dealing with it. It’s like the French is just an added extra.

  • Justin

I couldn’t really get into the hypnosis, but the teacher was encouraging and I felt like she was motived to get me speaking more French.

  • Yasmin

The classes are great because they are not recorded. You have a real teacher in front of you as though you were in a school, but you can take the class from home. Make sure your internet connection works properly before you start though …

  • Mike

I had problems « letting go » for the hypnosis, so we dropped it after a couple of lessons, but I carried on with the French because the teachers were good.

  • Kimberly

I rate this course 5 stars. The hypnosis is really relaxing and the teacher was very helpful.

  • Heather

Speaking to Rachel, I realised that my problems with French were because everyone had told me my French was terrible. Under hypnosis my confidence and fluency improved and I felt able to speak to my colleagues in the Paris office for the first time without worrying.

  • Sean

A bit expensive, but worth it because there’s a real teacher calling you, and not just another subscription by some start-up trying to earn a fast buck.

  • Claire

Had to warn the kids and the dog not to come in to the lounge during the hypnosis, because that really messes it up, but if you can find a quiet time, it’s relaxing and helpful.

  • Rob

Teacher on time and enthusiastic. No complaints.

Reading in French regularly will also help to improve your vocabulary. There are several French books that are easy to read. « Le Petit Nicholas » is one book that, as an English mother, I was prepared to read to my child in French and I personally found it straight-forward, and also very amusing.

Watching French films is a fun and immersive way to learn French. Blind Date is on Netflix at the time of writing and is a French film that is not too hard to understand, while at the same time showing real French people, even if in fairly unbelievable and unusual circumstances, and highlighting some basic French conversation.

Finally, we would suggest that the best way to learn French is in France. There are some excellent French courses that you can take in France during the summer. We usually organise French courses near to Biarritz in the summer where you can learn French with or without hypnosis and play golf or surf or take cooking classes at the same time. There are several other companies who organise French classes in France, but we don’t know of any others who give you the possibility of learning French under hypnosis in the south of France.
